Expedite divided the work into small, controlled sections – one part of the lobby could stay open while another section was under construction. The team moved the shell to the next area once a section was complete, steadily working its way around the lobby.

The shell was engineered to fit within tight spatial limits while maintaining access to lifts, hallways and the pharmacy. It was the centrepiece of a staged construction strategy that turned what could have been a highly disruptive renovation into a smooth, well-managed sequence.

Early feasibility and planning

Before construction began, Expedite conducted a detailed feasibility study to explore the requirements for managing staged construction safely within the hospital’s main entrance.

This early analysis gave Vital Healthcare a clear view of its options, including costs and timelines. This way, it could choose the solution that best met its operational and safety goals.

Expedite’s project managers worked closely with contractors, hospital operations and Vital Healthcare’s facilities team to plan daily movements and manage risk.

Regular safety briefings, clear signage and open communication ensured that everyone – from staff to patients – could move safely through the space while work continued in the background.
